Paving

Asphalt Paving • Sidewalks • Curb and Gutter

In today’s society, we are surrounded by paved surfaces. They make up our roadways and our sidewalks, our parking lots and even our airport landing strips.

Paving creates a smooth, hard and durable surface ideal for driving, biking and walking. Done right, paving creates a clean look and a functional surface for daily living. Don Olson Construction has more than thirty five years’ experience in asphalt paving for roadways and parking lots, as well as installation of cement sidewalks, curbs and gutters.

Asphalt Paving

Asphalt concrete is the material used in most roadways and parking lots. It is made of asphalt, which is used as a binder, and a mineral aggregate that is layered and compressed. Often referred to as blacktop, asphalt provides an extremely durable material that can be repaired over time and even recycled for future use. Asphalt is typically installed over a compressed, properly graded bed of crushed rock.

Concrete Sidewalks, Curbs and Gutters

Concrete is a durable construction material made of cement and a combination of other composite materials. It is commonly used in commercial and residential developments to construct sidewalks, curbs and gutters.

Sidewalks are formed by first compacting and grading dirt. Concrete is then poured into forms, typically in eight-foot segments to provide a relief or control groove that allows for shifting due to Earth movement or temperature changes.

Likewise curbs and gutters are also poured into forms to create the desired shape and structure.
